Altagrace Alcime was born June 25, 1941, in St. Louis du Nord, Haiti to the late Domage Lazarre and Celestine Aime. As a child she attended Saint Agnes primary school, and as an adolescent she found her passion as a fashion designer. In her adult life Altagrace Alcime was a well-known seamstress in her town. She welcomed many in her home and taught them the art of sewing.
In 1970 she married Tony Edner Alcime, traveled to the Bahamas in 1977 then later entered the United States in 1978. Although she is known as a mother to many, she birthed 3 children Dumanet, Nadege, and Nertha. She always taught her children to stand strong, “Kenbe-la” as she would say and to seek the lord in all that they do.
In the states, she worked as a seamstress for Suave Shoe Corporation. Altagrace Alcime continued her education and received a certificate in Culinary at Lindsey Hopkins and worked for the US Coast Guard and Miami Dade County Courthouse through Goodwill Industries. She worked hard to provide for her family whom she loved so much. She enjoyed attending church and praying. She loved designing and sewing clothes, dancing, food, reading health books, and spending lots of enjoyable moments with her grandchildren and loved ones.
After a long battle with diabetes, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, Altagrace Alcime passed away peacefully in the privacy of her home. Along with the memories we have of Altagrace “Tata” Alcime she will be remembered as a very loving, caring, energized person who was always willing to help others.
