BIOGRAPHY FOR DEMETRIUS METELLUS

Demetrius was born on November 23, 1953 to the late Antoine Cius and Gertrude D. Metellus in Grande Saline, Haiti. He was the fourth of seven children: Jacqueline, Jean Claude, Bossuet Cius, Marie Lucie, Anne Vierge, and Marie Marthe.  Demetrius moved to Port-au-Prince where he graduated from Lycée Petion (High School).

Demetrius met his future wife, Exaie Eliassaint in 1975 and they married in 1977.  He wanted better for his family and himself, so he decided to migrate to the United-States in 1980, where he resided in Miami, FL. He worked hard and smart to provide for his family.

Demetrius was a man who always had to be the best at what he did, always fighting to be number one. He loved to oversee things especially when it came to business. He attended a business school in Haiti and earned his electrician degree.

While working as a dishwasher he met a friend who needed extra help with an electrician. His friend told him he could come along but would still have to work toward obtaining his license as an electrician in the US. Demetrius agreed to do so, and his friend made sure he picked him up every morning. The first day on the job he was given the task to complete the electrical work in one room and the rest of the workers would do the others. Demetrius finished the job before everyone else did. He continued to work with his friend daily, attended school and worked as a dishwasher at night. Finally, he received his license, earned enough money to buy a car and a home.

He then brought his family from Haiti and had to remarry his wife, Exaie in 1984 in the states.  A few years later, they moved to Orlando FL and Demetrius went back to school to receive his business degree.  He opened a furniture store in Orlando and Winter Haven, then he opened a Telco company in Orlando, and finally opened Mr. De’s Auto Sales Service and Repairs.

Demetrius was a humble, hard-working, loving and caring individual. He was always willing to learn and listen to others’ opinions. Whatever he did he made sure he had a reason for it. He was a man who told many stories and always remained positive, never wanted any problems with anyone. When you saw him, he was always smiling or laughing. His laughter was so contagious, he made sure you could never leave his presence without laughing.

Growing up he played soccer and was amazing at it, he played for many years. He enjoyed watching TV with his family, when he came home from work. He watched Joel Osteen, any Steve Harvey shows and his all-time favorite which was Wrestling. His favorite movie was, “Coming to America” it always gave him a good laugh.

Demetrius was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. Even with this news he continued to stay positive and enjoy life. Whenever someone would ask him how he was doing he would always say, “I’m okay, by the grace of God.” Whenever someone was sad around him he would tell them, ‘God is going to do what he wants to do, you just have to accept it.’

He was a loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather. He taught us all to be strong and to never give up. He protected and supported his children in anything they put their minds to do.

Mr Demetrius Metellus continued to fight his fight until God called him Home on
