Doris Smith Ellington

Doris Ellington Smith was born the 3rd youngest of ten children to Lucious and Annie Ruth Ellington on November 25, 1959 in Orlando, Florida. Doris was a twin to her brother, Morris Ellington. As a child, Doris was known for her infectious smile and outgoing personality. She was educated in the Orange County Public School system and graduated with honors from Jones High School in the class of 1977, where she was a member of the Honor Society and President of Jones High Choir. She loved her high school family and alma mater so very much that she perpetually made her fond memories our memories. Post graduation, Doris attended the illustrious Bethune-Cookman College (University). She shared even greater sentiments as a proud alumni of BCU. Upon graduating from Bethune-Cookman in 1982, Doris pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and sang in the Concert Chorale. She cherished the memories and many friends she gained during her years of attendance. Those days and events set the stage for the rest of her life. After graduation, she was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Orange County Public School system for 30 years. On June 21, 1986 , Doris and John married. The Lord blessed their union with two sons: JeRohn and Jibreel Smith. Doris was a faithful member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church for more than 20 years. She was a people person and was loved and adored by all who knew her. She always had a calmness in her voice and had the ability to calm people down. Decorating was her specialty and Christmas was her time she expressed it. Everyone knew that Doris had that knack to go above and beyond the norm. That's just a taste of her many talents and she will truly be missed beyond words. She was preceded in death by her parents Lucious and Annie Ruth Ellington, sisters Evelyn "Von" Lampkin and Teresa Ellington Goldsmith. After a lengthy illness, on Sunday, July 19, 2015 the Lord dispatched a special angel to escort Doris to her Eternal Home in GLORY. And for those she left to cherish her memory, we can rejoice and be secure in the knowledge that she loved us all and has joined our many loved ones around the Throne of Jesus. We rejoice knowing that she is happy and truly knew, loved and trusted the Lord. Doris is survived by her Husband: John Smith; Sons: JeRohn and Jibreel Smith; 3 Brothers : Stephen Ellington (Helen), Jerome Ellington and Morris Ellington (Mandy); 4 Sisters : Juanita Ellington -Jessie, Delphine Ellington-Morris, Wilma Ellington and Clentoria Ellington; 3 Adopted Sisters ; Uncle : John Ellington(Pearl); Aunt : Evelyn Ivory; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, St. Mark A.M.E. Church family and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends who have been affected by this loss.
