Gertrude Jean Philippe was born on February 5, 1930 in Carenage Commune Anse-Rouge, Haiti to Siralien Jean Philippe and Decilia Fleurilus.
In the 1950’s, Gertrude met and fell in love with a handsome fellow named Joseph “Mafait” Geffrard. From then on, she was affectionately known as “Mme Mafait”. Together they raised a family filled with love. Gertrude was a devoted wife, and a proud mother, always making time for family, and offering unwavering support, love, and guidance.
Outside of caring for her family, Gertrude was passionate about her “komes”. She was extremely passionate about this line of work. Not only was it a source of income, but also a way of challenging herself and constant fulfillment. Gertrude will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and love for her family. Whether it was through lending a helping hand, sharing wisdom, or simply making others smile, Gertrude touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her love, Joseph (Mafait) in 2005. Gertrude is survived by her 8 children: Wilbert Geffrard, Wilgard Geffrard, Therese G. Jean, Josette G. Theus (Jean Nicker), Risemene G. Metayer (Enoch), LeRose Geffrard, Anne-Rose Geffrard, and Onel Geffrard (Philorine). 14 grandchildren: Wheed G. Lekel (Josue), Ruth G. Metayer (Daniel), Shoobert Geffrard (Pascale), Caleb Geffrard (Rose), Roselande G. Roger (Jim), Wilenda Geffrard, Weisner E. Gertrude also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish and remember the memories she created. Gertrude’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will remain forever in our hearts.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all who have offered their love and support during this difficult time.
