Jean-Marie Charles

Let me begin by saying 'thank you' to everyone for coming to support the Charles family in our time of need. We appreciate you all, for coming to the remembering my father. We are honored to see how many friends and family that cared enough to come honor my father with a final goodbye. As one of his children I was granted with the opportunity to write my father’s Eulogy. Jean-Marie Charles was born May 4,1960 in Limbé Haiti. To the parentage of Philostene Charles and Estella Poleon. Short after his birth his parents moved to Cabarais to raise him there. Jean-Marie Charles grew up with his two older siblings Arnold & Monique Poleon and three younger siblings Johnny Steven, Edlyn Prevalus, and Hudson Prevalus. My father used to tell me stories about his younger days. He enjoyed most of his time as a child, running and playing with his friends. As a young adult, he played soccer with the Astrosse soccer team in Limbé, until a tragic accident caused him to stop from playing, but his life didn’t stop there. A new chapter in his life was about to begin. He started his new Journey, when he met my mother Hugette Prevalus and had five beautiful children: Michealle, Sandro, Christiana, Saraphina, Jean-Mickens. Later, they decided to adopt two girls out of the kindness of their hearts: Renalda Melus, and Lourna-Ruthnee Melus. He worked in different fields to provide for his family. He left early in the morning and returned late at night. Even as a little girl, I remember him coming home with big bags of apples and a variety of fruits with a big smile on his face calling all nieces, nephews, neighbors to share with. That’s the kind of man my dad was. He was, loving, caring, and cared as well for the children in the neighborhood, and they loved him for it. When my mother had the opportunity to come to the USA, he found himself raising 5 children alone. He made sure that we went to school on time, made sure we had clean clothes, food on the table and, he never once complained. Another chapter of his life began when he left Haiti with his 5 children, and moved to the USA in pursuance of a better life. He was employed at Master Corp as a Housman, to provide for his family. On his days off he enjoyed watching soccer with his children. I learned from my father, 'that life is too short and often brutal, and the best way to combat it all, is with a good laugh and the ability to appreciate the small moments in life, in any circumstances'. Now that he is no longer here, I think of all the things that we will not do together like: walking my sisters and I down the aisle on our wedding day; seeing my first born; getting the chance to meet any of his future grand-children. I asked myself "Why" in a silent voice within. I guess God had other plans! With great sorrows and tearful eyes, I stand here wishing and hoping you were still here with us. July 13,2017 is a day we will never forget. The final chapter began, a new journey once more. The day the heavens whispered to my father "Come to Me My Son." A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest at last. The life of a loving father and loving husband will stay in the memories of his loved ones. We Love you Father Rest In Peace
