Born in Jean Rabel, Haiti on January 26, 1948, Lafortune Joseph began his journey through life. Lafortene was the oldest of four children from the late farmer Piervelus Joseph and his wife Eloisie Thelusma.
As a young boy Lafortune loved to help as much as he could. He followed his father’s footstep and became a farmer. Soon after, he married Remilia Remy. Together they had a total of 8 children but only seven remain today. He raised his children to love one another and to look out for each other.
In search for a better life, in 1985, he relocated to the United States where he worked as a baker. Once settled, he was able to bring his wife and all of his children in the United. Lafortene was a very strong person who was never known to be sick. He loved long walks no matter the distance. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren as if he was a kid himself.
After retiring, He spent most of his time in Haiti, where he cared for other relatives as well. In July 2018, Lafortene had an unforeseen stroke. His children rushed to Haiti and brought him back to the U.S. He was receiving treatment and seemed to be getting better. Suddenly, on September 21st, he was rushed to the hospital after stating he was not feeling well. His health quickly went down. He was diagnosed with having another massive heart attack which left him brain dead.
