Marie Alourdes Chery

Today we are here to celebrate and honor the life of Marie A. Chery also known as Sister Chery. Sister Chery was born on September 2, 1951 in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, to the late Armand and Livie Joseph. She spent most of her early years studying in Petite Riviere de      l’Artibonite and completed her nursing degree there. She returned to Port-au-Prince where she started working at the Canape Vert Hospital as a Nurse. Sister Chery met her husband in Port-au-Prince in 1972. A year later they were married and had 3 beautiful children together; Eunice, Pascal and Ricardo. She had a passion to help people,      especially the less-fortunate ones and for the well-being of others.  Sister Chery loved God and her church family. In 1973, she attended L’Eglise Tabernacle de la Grace Sainte Cite in Haiti. She was part of the Women’s ministry known as Association des Femmes Fervents Interdenominationelles and she was the secretary. She served as a Deaconess and also a Sunday School Teacher until she migrated to United States of America in 2003. Sister Chery was a member of    Assemblee du Tres-Haut in Jacksonville. She had a great impact on the lives of the people around her. She was known for her enthusiasm, love and generosity, often called, ”giving lady”.  After health issues, Sister Chery decided to move in with her only daughter in Orlando and became member of 2nd Chance International Ministries, where she was loved and appreciated by everyone. She was the adviser to the Women’s ministry and had great plans, however, she became ill around shortly thereafter. She was diagnosed with Bone Cancer and was barely able to participate in any of the church activities.            Fortunately, due to technology, she was able to enjoy church services while at home. Sister Chery was a lovely, strong, caring, thoughtful, hardworking, compassionate, generous and kind woman. She was also a great mom and most of all, she was a God-Fearing woman. She was always there for her children and grandchildren. Even though, cancer destroyed her body during her last days, her spirit was firm and always said “Bondye kapap”. Sister Chery holds a special place in the hearts of all who knew her and she will be missed. Her legacy will   always be remembered by all her loved ones.

On May 7, 2018, Alourdes Joseph Chery was called home to be with the Lord.
