Joseph Maurice Louissaint was born in Port au Prince, Haiti on October 29, 1934. He was the fourth of twelve children of Vertus Louissaint and Claricile Exceance Louissaint. Maurice was 17 years old when his
father passed, leaving him and his older brother Gaston to care for the family. He grew up watching his
mother participating in missionary outings throughout the city and the hill tops, bringing many souls to Christ and began following in her footsteps by evangelizing. He came to faith in Christ and was very active in the church.
He pursued a career in Construction at École Professionnelle GB Damien. He worked as a general
contractor in Haiti designing commercial buildings and residential homes for government officials and
dignitaries. This career path led him to build a three story home for his wife at the age of 26. Later, he felt God's calling to further his education in Biblical Studies where he earned his Pastoral degree at Ecole Evangelique UFM de Bolosse in Port au Prince.
? In 1962, Pastor Maurice met the love of his life, Aloncita Jocecito. Guided by the Holy Spirit and the pastor's spiritual life, God had called his future wife to become his servant. They were married in 1963 at a Baptist Church located in Rue de la Reunion. Through their union, seven children were born. The first four children (Gaitha, Esther, Dina and Francy) were born in Haiti.
? In 1968, he left his wife and children and traveled to France seeking a better future for them due to the political situation in Haiti. In 1969, he relocated to the United States of America. Thereafter, he sent for his wife and they resided in Brooklyn, New York. A few years later, the fourth daughter, Mona was born. In 1976, his children reunited with him in New York. Shortly after, he was blessed with his first born son, Maurice Jr. who was also born prior to moving to the state of Florida.
Joseph Maurice’s passion for Christ led him to continue evangelizing in the inner city and suburbs of New York. He was a member of the French Speaking Baptist Church in Brooklyn and founded the Men
Missionary Choir. Today, the Men Missionary Choir continues to grow and spreads the Gospel of Christ throughout the United States, Canada and Haiti.
In 1980, he left Brooklyn, New York and moved with his family to Florida. Joseph Maurice continued his missionary work in Fort Lauderdale assisting local Haitian churches with Evangelism, Church Growth and Discipleship. In 1981, he was ordained as a minister. Reverend Maurice, his wife and their six children were led to begin their missionary journey in the city of Dania Beach. They traveled throughout the city sharing the Gospel of God. Many people came to faith and others rededicated their lives to Christ. This was the start of a missionary church. In 1981, he then founded the South Florida First Haitian Evangelical Baptist Church of
Dania. Reverend Maurice continued working fervently in the community and surrounding cities with souls for Christ. During this time, his family continued to grow and he was blessed with his second son, Joseph Richard.
Pastor Maurice served as the senior pastor of South Florida Haitian Evangelical Baptist Church for 34 years. As the senior pastor, he led the congregation with warmth, dedication, enthusiasm and energy.
Reverend Joseph Maurice devoted much of his life preaching the Gospel of God.
On May 27, 2015, Reverend Joseph Maurice was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His last few days were spent in the hospital with his family by his side. The many people that came to visit him were
encouraged to keep the faith. On Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11:02 am, the Lord called him Home. Reverend Joseph Maurice "Fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Now, there is in store for him the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award him on that day." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
